Bug or Functionality in Google Application (Gmail etc)

While doing something on internet I came across a strange thing in Google. I dont know whether it is Google's functionality/feature or bug in their system, but its strange. If you have mail id which contains dot like abc.pqr@gmail.com then try to login without dot in email id like abcpqr@gmail.com . You will be able to login successfully without any error and after login you will find the original email id i.e. abc.pqr@gmail.com not abcpqr@gmail.com. |
Similarly, if your mail id doesn't contains any dot and try to login it with adding several dots (as many as you want) like .....................dharmendra.hbti..........@gamil.com or .....d.h.a.r.m.e.n.d.r.a.h.b.t.i............@gmail.com or only d.h.a.r.m.e.n.d.r.a.h.b.t.i@gmail.com you will not get any error such as your mail id is not valid or invalid mail id , but your id will be accepted successfully . I have tried to login my id dharmendra.hbti@gmail as d.h.a.r.m.e.n.d.r.a.h.b.t.i@gmail.com and I got success full login as shown below:![]() ![]() So the conclusion is that in unlike other email services, in google we cant have two id with the same name but differ by dot. example we cant have id dkhbti@gmail.com and dk.hbti@gmail.com, both are treated as same, but in yahoo these two are different as shown below: ![]() |
Its a very old bug... But, very less people knows about it... I came to know this thing about 2 years ago, while reading some hacking and cracking material on internet...!!
